Fraser Institute is a libertarian/conservative (i.e. read "anti-labor") crew per Wikipesdia (not a left site.) Quoting them shows a bias - theirs. Shame on you.

with all due respect this article is reactionary, fear-mongering nonsense. the reason the UFT unity caucus opposes this bill is that if it passes then they will have egg on their face—they will lose the one thing that they can lie and say they’ve gotten us: free healthcare. then they’ll be forced to *actually* meaningfully collectively bargain over wages, discontinuance practices, pensions, etc, and they are *not* wanting to put in that work. More than that, this article is wildly incoherent, and literally quotes a climate change denying right wing think tank. It legitimately is terrible writing. I’m disappointed in yall for publishing this.

You may have had some passing conversations with Dick, but it seems like you haven't read the bill (especially since the 2023 amendments) or the RAND corp or UMASS studies.

There are unions who are looking forward to seeing this passed such as NYSNA, 1199, 32BJ and more.

If you think the private insurance companies have more of an interest in keeping you healthy than a single payer system, you are wrong and the data shows.

So let's count the ways...Canada does NOT have a Medicare for All system. In fact, Canadian health care was developed PROVINCE by PROVINCE. Each province has its own system. You quote a right wing think tank. You may as well be quoting the Heritage Foundation. You do cursory research, if any, in what is yet another appeal to fear from the Unity Patronage Cult. Hope you are enjoying your second pension as you do yet another disservice to those of us working to improve health care for Americans.

This is another misinformed and misleading blog post from Peter Goodman. Other commenters have pointed out that Goodman is not providing recent or correct information about NYHA. That information is readily available to anyone willing to do the work of objective research. As others have noted, read the independent studies by the RAND Corporation and UMASS, and check out nyhcampaign.org. and www.nysenate.gov/sites/default/files/article/attachment/5024_jackson_nyha_brochure.pdf

As for Goodman’s supposed proof that universal healthcare doesn’t work, the Fraser Institute he continuously cites is a pro-free market, libertarian-conservative Canadian public policy think tank-- not unlike the Heritage Foundation in the United States, authors of Project 2025. The Fraser Institute is funded by corporate donors that include union-busting billionaires Charles and David Koch, gold mining magnate Peter Munk and his posthumous foundation Aurea, the ExxonMobil oil conglomerate, the Philip Morris tobacco conglomerate, and various pharmaceutical corporations including GlaxoSmithKlein and Eli Lilly. The Fraser Institute has the ignoble distinction of claiming that climate change is a hoax, and that “Claims about extreme weather should not be used as the basis for committing to long-term regulatory regimes.” The right-wing Fraser Institute is aligned with and funded by the enemies of labor unions. It’s confounding to see Peter Goodman, an online mouthpiece of Michael Mulgrew and his Unity Caucus, espousing the Fraser Institute’s fear-mongering, right-wing rhetoric.

Oh I see vote for Harris and trust her? As I recall UFT retirees had to fend off a privatized Medicare disadvantage program foisted on them by the leadership of the UFT in collusion with the Democratic mayor and city council. So much for the neo libs defending Medicare.
