I heard on the news nyc politicians are moving to pass a bill or whatever it is called to give themselves a raise including the mayor. One reason was they at the lower end $107,000 should be making a livable salary and have he’d a raise to keep with inflation in 10 years. Are you kidding me and the paras deserve what?? I am a retired teacher and yes I want higher cost of living being able to get 8% on my tda and fix my co pays but this para thing is crap and inhumane. They work harder than any council member.

Please call them the city out on this

This new change is beyond disgusting. A false bill of goods has been presented. A total myth.

For far too long, paraprofessionals have had to live in the shadows with subpar wages that does not keep up with the cost of inflation.

For far too long, paraprofessionals have had to have two or three jobs just to make ends meet.

For far too long, we have felt the inequity and unjust treatment from the UFT leadership.

Michael Mulgrew is the spin Doctor , he shamelessly said that this $10,000 would be in perpetuity and it would be increasing every year for paraprofessionals. That was during the election campaign last year..

Many of us swallowed, his lies, hook ,line, and sinker.

I too have hope but the hope is not in Michael Mulgrew or in unity doing what is right by paraprofessionals. I will not stop fighting for paraprofessionals..

I have many colleagues in unity and though they do not agree with Mulgrew’s they are afraid of losing their salaries. Or if they speak out the risk getting fired..

Any money in the pockets of paraprofessionals as well deserved, but this is not the solution.

Just like any politician campaigning promise them anything to get the vote then once elected forget about your promises Paraprofessionals deserve more for all they do in the schools

Why can't the parapros take on the ABA Lobby, regulate homeschools and parents, and commit to abolishing ABA therapy out of New York schools to serve as an example for all states? America and the United Kingdom need to learn from the EU and WHO on why ABA is harmful for many neurodivergent people and is no different from LGBTQA+ conversion therapy. So many parents who have little information on Autism or other conditions see ABA and homeschooling as a last resort when it causes damage to a child's building of relationships, play, community, and future independence. It isolates children and reduces their feelings and emotions into behavior problems that need to be studied, rather than treating them like little human beings. It harms how play and interest are developed and nurtured in children and forces high masking and manners on children to the point they are mini-adults and are no longer autistic children or adults.

No child should ever have to deal with these horrors, but they are still occurring and harming kids.
