While Mulgrew gives lip service to 'reforming para pay' to help deal with the citywide para shortage, this newly leaked document shows just how much he could have given to paras and OT/PTs
Hi Pete, as I indicated prior in my post I will share some ideas (about 5 or 6) in an upcoming post shortly and would love to crowdsource others like yourself.
Be sure to comment with an idea also on my next post.
The costing sheets I’ve shared could spark some creative solutions if you look them over.
But one idea is fairly implicit from this post.
Mulgrew had an opportunity here with some added value he was given beyond the pattern to give an added increase. He failed to deliver. It’s a big missed opportunity.
He had some credits in the overall package totaling 1.425% beyond the pattern and he dropped the ball because he wanted to sell this contract to us all before the summer break and sought to add more sweeteners for us all.
We must to find those opportunities in the next round… which happen in most negotiations … see the past summary sheets as proof …. and next time go in intentionally and decidedly knowing those extra monies will be added to increases for hard to staff positions like paras.
DC 37 did just that in their contract with their added Equity Fund.
I appreciate the detailed analysis of the leaked document. I hope that there will be a single opposition slate that will replace the current negotiating team and be able to negotiate a better contract for working members. A split opposition equals more of the same.
Dan, what is your plan. What would you do?

With “pattern bargaining” why should a UFT President make $350,000? Does he or she need a living wage of $350,000 and a teacher’s salary?
What is he or she bargaining? Non-pensionable bonuses. Deferred compensation. Health care.
The Health Insurance Stabilization Fund controlled by the MLC—which is insolvent.
The Welfare Fund which will not release its actuarial reports and cut out retiree members.
What is Randi Weingarten, President for Life getting paid for?
These are basic questions.
Retirees prescription drugs are not covered by the Welfare Fund, who voted for that and when?
