Each Boro has a political action coordinator, a per session position, they work with electeds in the Boro, and coordinate interviews for open seats, usually the District Reps and chapter leaders, the endorsement recommendations go before the Delegate Assemblies for approval, the Dems hold majorities on the City Council and in Albany, in recent time the Republicans are MAGA Trumpers. Many union activists are also active in local political organizations.

Yeah, I don't think many will be surprised as to where the political donations are going. A handful of Republicans received donations as well, but the vast majority of recipients are definitely democrats.

Question: why isn’t the UFT transparent about its COPE contributions?

Good question. I have no idea, but if I had to venture a guess, I would say they may fear that members will pull their COPE donations based on personal politics.

However, I also think that more members would donate to COPE if union leadership lifted the veil of secrecy.

Either way, it is OUR money that union leadership is using, so there should be full transparency.

UFT rank and file and retirees should have a right to know who is receiving their money.
