Ehhh… as something of an “insider” on this action, I’d stop short of calling it “wildcat;” it’s more of mutual aid, leveraging connections with parent advocates in my opinion. I didn’t reach out to “take a stand” against any organization, but just to try to help my colleagues & their students who are in a tough spot.
Yes, thank you for your advocacy in behalf of your peers and students. I use the term 'wildcat' rhetorically to describe actions done by unionists, perhaps in collaboration with outside community members (or perhaps not), but outside of the official UFT apparatus, either because the union is officially against doing that action or simply has not set up an official program. Often it's difficult to tell which is the case. Obviously, that's very different than a wildcat 'strike,' which is the more common use of the phrase.
