Tonight on Talk Out of School: Retired Paras Pay the Price for TRS’s Mistake
Tune in tonight at 7 PM on WBAI 99.5 FM and wbai.org
Tonight, Talk Out of School puts the spotlight on 183 retired NYC paraprofessionals whose disability pensions have been slashed roughly in half after the Teachers’ Retirement System acknowledged an error in calculating their benefits.
But TRS made the mistake. Why should retired paras pay the price?
We’ll hear directly from retired paraprofessionals Anthony Delgardio and Edith Housni about what these cuts mean for their lives. Joining the conversation are Marianne Pizzitola, president of the NYC Organization of Public Service Retirees, and Arthur Goldstein, vice chair of the UFT Retired Teachers Chapter and union organizer with Fix Retiree Benefits and A Better Contract.
We’ll ask how this happened, who is responsible, what the UFT and TRS can do right now—and what it will take to make these retirees whole.
