Nothing divisive about the language in the resolution, or one sided. It’s plain and clear language calling for an end to all violence. And to ignore LeRoy and Michael S. putting their finger on the scale, as is so often the case at DAs, is to ignore the completely undemocratic nature of the body. That’s why people stormed out: everyone is tired of pretending that the DA represents the rank and file of the union.

Totally agree with the DA on the decision not to endorse a leftist, anti semitic proposal. The fighting ends when every, every hostage is released and more important every member of Hamas is captured or DEAD.

I was a delegate from the Bronx fron 1995 until 2015. The DA sometimes gets it wrong, our union is like others politically on many social issues, but in the end we want what's right and just. Evil must be destroyed or it will destroy us.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

I STAND WITH ISRAEL

Every time violence has flared up between Gaza and Israel they claim they will “destroy hamas” and it has never happened. How do you think Hamas gets created? It is when young people live through war and have their families and friends killed. This will be no different, except now Israel has killed over 10,000 people, and destroyed the second oldest church in the world and much more. The horror is unmatched and a disgrace to the Jewish religion.

Uft should stick to educational issues. People should work with specific organizations to express their political beliefs . We have to stay united and strong to focus on member needs such as contracts, healthcare, and maintaining retirees benefits. We pay dues to the UFT deal with our jobs, not the issues of the world.

Maybe it’s because MORE decided to attach and endorse an organization in which “fuck the Jews” was chanted?

100%!! I walked through that "protest" on the way out. I was disgusted, angry and scared, all at the same time.

Did that even happen? Which organization?

What organization is that?

The UFT was founded by people who truly believed in unity and the legitimate rights of educators in NYC. Many of the founders were Jewish and must be rolling in their graves that this antisemitism amendment would be considered. One would think it best for the UFT to improve education in NYC rather than dabbling in world issues that are not connected with improved classroom instruction ideas that are- skewed and biased. Follow the money supporting this “movement”. Shame on the UFT.

I really don’t think anyone should get involved in this. It’s between Israel/Hamas and other global powers. UFT is about teachers and the students we serve. People are free to protest whatever they want but educational organizations such as UFT should sit this one out.

You are historically illiterate and an anti semitic fool. Read the he Bible, God gave the land of Israel th the Jewish people who were gracious to offer the same he Arab/Muslim folks a chance to live together ina Jewish state. They rejected it and have been at war ever since. Your numbers are very wrong but eve so 10000 is small compared to the millions and million of slaughtered Jew.

Study the Bible and be set free.

This piece is so misleading because there was already a line in the reso calling for release of hostages, therefore why would that be repeated in the amendment ? Very disappointed the union is on the wrong side of history again, how dare educator not call for the end to killing of 5,000 children no matter where they are. Disgusting, spineless behavior. I would’ve walked out too.

A union for be for the job of the members, teaching. Hitler politicized education. Stop politicizing and protect our nations children who are to be educated. Reading, writing, math. NOT politics 👎

The lack of critical examination of propaganda evident in the above comments is concerning. As educators we are tasked with helping our students become strong critical thinkers that examine evidence in a thorough and meaningful way. There are unsubstantiated and disproven claims that two readers are making above, which indicates to me that there is a real need for adult education in the DOE.
